Malin Augustea: Coming together to deliver the CD01

The CD01 semisubmersible barge, with 12m high caissons makes her ideally suited for ROFO of large vessels and floating structures.

Malin Abram, heavy lift specialists and part of the Malin Group, have partnered with Augustea,  to bring a new asset to the market, the CD01. The 137m semi-submersible barge represents one of the largest in Europe, and offers a domestic capability not seen in Scotland for decades.

The barge has recently been used for the launch of the Royal Navy’s new Type 26 vessels, as well as across scopes in the renewables and oil and gas markets.

She can submerge to a maximum 11m over deck allowing her to float off cargos with up to 9.5m draught subject to support type and clearance requirements. Her split caisson arrangement allows cargo to overhang fwd and aft. The caissons can be relocated as required to suit project requirements, reflected in the growing interest within the offshore renewables sector.

The barge is a joint venture between the Malin Abram and Augustea and, now modified, represents one of the largest in Europe.  Due to its highly versatile design, it can be used for both deep sea transport of large vessels and cargo, but also offers exciting new docking capabilities to the local area. With growing requirements across nuclear, defence, oil and gas and renewables, and limited infrastructure, she offers a sought after solution owing to her location and versatility.

With a length of 137 metres and deck area of 4,200 square meters, the barge brings an enviable resource to the banks of the River Clyde.
